The problem
Banners that fail
What customers tell us before we start, and what we do about it.
What usually goes wrong
- The last one sagged within a week and looked worse than nothing.
- It tore free in wind and ended up in the car park.
- It is going up thirty feet off the ground and nobody on staff can reach it.
How SignFreaks handles it
- Tensioned evenly across the span rather than tied at four corners and left to sag.
- Fixings matched to the structure and to how much wind the position actually gets.
- Proper access, so a banner at height is a routine job rather than an improvisation.
What you get
How we hang them
The parts that matter, and why each one is specified the way it is.

Tensioning
Even tension across the span, which is what keeps a banner flat and stops it flapping itself apart.

Fixings
Appropriate to the structure, whether that is a building, a fence, scaffolding or poles.

Height access
Lifts where the position needs them, with traffic management if the pavement is affected.
Wind assessment
Whether the position suits solid vinyl or needs mesh. Better raised before printing than after.
Multiple sites
Pole banner runs and multi-site campaigns installed as one job.
Removal
Taking them down at the end of the campaign, which is easy to forget when planning.
Compare
Fixing by structure
Each structure wants a different approach.
| Structure | Method |
|---|---|
| Building frontage | Fixed anchors or an existing frame, tensioned across the span |
| Fence | Cable ties or bungees at close spacing; mesh strongly preferred |
| Scaffolding | Tied to the structure at close centers; mesh usually mandatory |
| Light poles | Pole banner brackets, with permission from whoever owns the pole |
| Freestanding frame | Pole pockets, which gives the cleanest result |

Approvals
Permits and what to expect
The part of the job most likely to move your timeline.
The install is straightforward; permission is the part that catches people. Temporary signage is regulated in most municipalities, often with limits on size and how long it may stay up. Pole banners need permission from whoever owns the pole, which is frequently the municipality or the utility rather than you. We will flag what we know, and for a long campaign it is worth confirming before printing.
We handle the drawings and the filing as part of the job. There is more detail on our sign permit page.
On the day
What happens on the day
So you know what is happening and when.
- The position checked against what was surveyed, and the fixings confirmed.
- Access set up, with the pavement closed if the height requires it.
- Fixing points established or existing anchors checked.
- The banner hung and tensioned evenly across the span.
- Corners and grommets checked under tension before we leave.
- Photographs sent, and the removal date noted if we are taking it down.

What moves the price
Roughly in the order they matter.
We do not publish price lists, because a number without your size, site and deadline attached would be fiction. Give us those three and you get a real quote.

- Access, and whether a lift and traffic management are needed.
- Structure and how complicated the fixings are.
- Number of banners and sites.
- Whether removal is included.

Questions we get asked
Can you hang a banner we bought elsewhere?
Yes. We will check the finishing first — hems, grommets and material — because a banner finished badly will fail whoever hangs it, and we would rather tell you before it is up than after.
How do you stop it sagging?
Even tension across the whole span and enough fixing points. Sagging almost always comes from tying only the corners, which puts all the load in four places and lets everything between them hang loose.
What about wind?
The position determines the specification. In an exposed spot, mesh is the answer, along with closer fixings and a tension system that gives a little rather than tearing. If you tell us the position before printing, we can advise on material.
Do you take them down again?
Yes, and it is worth arranging at the same time. Campaign banners left up past their date look neglected, and in some municipalities an expired temporary sign is a compliance issue as well as an aesthetic one.
Can you do pole banners along a street?
Yes, including multi-pole runs. The permission is the part to sort first — the poles usually belong to the municipality or a utility, and they will have their own requirements for brackets and wind rating.
